I am MOTHER, daughter, sister and Wife. My oldest child is on the autism spectrum but that is not when my exposure to special needs began. My Father has dyslexia, one of my sisters was born at 24 weeks gestation and has Central Auditory Processing Disorder, another one is Autistic and my littlest brother (who really isn't very little) has Fetal Alcohol Affect He's adopted but if it wasn't for the possibility of you thinking my Mom drank I wouldn't even tell you that. In short, I have been around special needs my whole life! I got my bachelors in Communication Disorders (Speech Language Pathology). I am planning to go back to school and get my masters and doctorate in the same field. Until then I work one day a week as a Speech Language Technician at Clear Horizons Academy, a school for children on the autism spectrum. I love my job.
I have noticed a need to get information out there about where to go for testing if you think your child might be on the autism spectrum and/or has other learning disablities/delays. Parents with children who have disabilities need a place they can go to learn about some of the great programs for their kids. I'm learning about more and more programs all the time. And I want to share. So here is my blog that I really have put off way to long. I call it Warrior Mothers because if you are a parent of one of our special children you know that everyday can be a struggle. I hope I can provide you with some information that will help you with your battles. Knowledge really is power. Let's help our children, help our families and help ourselves.
